Album Notes Local H: Scott Lucas (various instruments); Joe Daniels (drums, whistling). Additional personnel: Dean DeLeo (guitar). Recorded at RTB Audio Visual Productions, Lake Havasu, Arizona. For a band that emits such a huge, walloping sound, its difficult to believe that Local H is merely a duo. Scott Lucas is the vocalist/multi-instrumental mastermind of the group, and he's ably accompanied by the savage skin-pounding of compatriot Joe Daniels. Rather than resort to endless multi-tracking to fill out the sound of PACK UP THE CATS, Local H keeps it basic, relying on the kind of primal guitar riffs and drum beats that have been the heart of rock & roll since time immemorial. One of the band's most valuable assets is a wacky sense of humor, which keeps their gonzo, slash-and-burn approach sounding fresh throughout the album. The band blends broad, '70s-style sounds with a more modern lo-fi aesthetic to achieve an idiosyncratic but immediately infectious sound.
