Bill Laswell's OSCILLATIONS long-player gets the remake treatment, featuring a number of top-names from both the Sub Rosa stable and electronica in general. Endemic Void chimes in first with his breezy and atmospheric take on "Oscillations," all buoyant synth whispers and escalating rhythms. Vedic takes the Middle Eastern route, throwing equal shards fourth-world beatmakers and lower-key electronics at the soundscapes like hordes of menacing crickets.
Scanner trips up drum 'n' bass with his usual goodie bag of electronic tricks on "Low Membrane Mix," sweeping the jungle rhythms up into the starstream. Nico rips Laswell's "Oscillations" a new orifice via electronix smeared in subterranean distortion and timestretched to painful dimensions. Atom Heart turns the DSP level up high on his "Digital Cut-up" mix, performing the equivalent of aural autopsy. The BPMs become scattered drones in the bitstream. Bisk, Ui, and Soul Static Sound further complement this fairly necessary entrTe in the remix sweepstakes.
