Album Notes
THE OSBOURNE FAMILY ALBUM is a musical compendium that helps tell the story of rock & roll Prince Of Darkness Ozzy Osbourne and his brood, whose reality show became one of MTV's highest rated programs ever. Opening with former next-door-neighbor Pat Boone's swanky lounge version of "Crazy Train," this collection provides background on Ozzy, spouse Sharon, and kids Jack and Kelly (elder Osbourne daughter Aimee chose not to be involved in the show, although she is continually referenced in the album notes). Among the tidbits the liner notes provide is that the Kinks' "You Really Got Me" turned Ozzy onto rock music, John Lennon's "Imagine" is Ozzy and Sharon's song, and the Beatlesque "Dreamer" was penned as a Lennon tribute.
"Mama, I'm Coming Home" was written for Sharon while her hubby was on the road and is her favorite Ozzy song. Kelly's rec-room cover of "Papa Don't Preach" shows her interest in the family business is best served elsewhere, while Jack's A&R attempt resulted in the grungy dream-pop of Dillusion's "Mirror." Liberally sprinkled with hilarious profanity-spiked audio excerpts from the show, THE OSBOURNE FAMILY ALBUM is a neat souvenir from this highly entertaining show.
