This modern telling of the Greek myth took playwright Tennessee Williams 17 years to write. Set in a small Mississippi town, a woman must run her disagreeable husband's dry goods store while he recuperates upstairs from a long illness. A young drifter musician wanders into her life and the spring of jealousy, lust and revenge is wound tight.
