Movie Description
Arkwright's Emporium is a corner shop that’s open all night but doesn’t provide much in the way of customer service--and that's part of the fun in this BBC sitcom. The wares are guarded over by Arkwright himself (memorably played by Ronnie Barker), a hapless curmudgeon whose shop and manner seem to come from another era entirely. Amid it all, Arkwright tries to groom his reluctant nephew, Granville (David Jason), to one day take over the store--not to mention make some halting advances on buxom nurse Gladys Emmanuel (Lynda Baron). This set presents a collection of episodes from the show created by Roy Clarke (LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE, KEEPING UP APPEARANCES)., Arkwright, the stuttering, stingy English shopkeeper, is constantly scheming to get money out of his gullible customers. He teaches his nephew Granville the exciting world of corner shops while pining for his object of affection, nurse Gladys Emmanuel.
