Movie Description A department store statue of Venus comes to life in this delightfully unusual musical comedy. Eddie, the store's window dresser, falls in love with Venus, but is eventually disappointed when the lovely Goddess returns to statue form.
Synopsis An adaptation of the S.J. Perelman-Kurt Weill-Ogden Nash musical about a shy window dresser who brings a statue of Venus to life. Animated by the young man's kiss, the goddess proceeds to wreak joyful havoc on the department store where he works. Her presence causes people to fall in love right and left -- everyone, that is, except the window dresser who is terrified by Venus's amorous advances.
Film Notes Kurt Weill and Ogden Nash wrote original score. Only three of their sixteen songs were used in the film version; new lyrics and songs by Ann Ronell were added. Mary Martin played Venus in the stage version. Agnes de Mille, fresh from her success as the choreographer of "Oklahoma!", staged the dances in what was originally a play heavily dependent on choreography.
