Album Notes Personnel include: Lisa Marie Presley (vocals); Pink (vocals); Lyle Workman, Michael Lockwood, Stuart Mathis, Nick Lashley (guitar); Joel Derouin (violin); Suzie Katayama, Cameron Stone (cello); Roger Manning (piano, organ, keyboards); Zak Rae (electric piano); Eric Rosse (keyboards, programming); Paul Bushnell (bass guitar); Joey Waronker, Matt Chamberlain (drums); Drew Hester (tambourine). For Lisa Marie Presley, becoming a pop singer at the age of 35 via her 2003 debut, TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, was a difficult step, especially given her stellar lineage. Two years later, NOW WHAT finds Elvis's only child considerably more confident, writing lyrics for every song, save a cover of Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry," which is draped in slick guitar lines and programmed drum loops. Throughout the record, Presley strikes a tough pose, and growls her way through a brace of songs loaded with plenty of personal meaning. These tunes range from a moving tribute to her mother, Priscilla ("Raven") to a mid-tempo shout-out to a close-knit circle of friends ("Thanx"). There's also "When You Go," a somber ode to late punk icon Johnny Ramone, into which Presley pours herself with verve. A few famous names also pop up on NOW WHAT, most notably hit-doctor Linda Perry, whose contributions include co-writes on the prickly rocker "Idiot" (featuring guitar riffs by former Sex Pistol Steve Jones) and the soaring "Shine" (with harmonies courtesy of Perry pal Pink). With Presley's emotional investment readily apparent, NOW WHAT shows the King's daughter taking charge of her own musical future.
