For nearly 10 years, the Spin Doctors struggled to regain the success generated by their 1991 debut, POCKET FULL OF KRYPTONITE. After disbanding for a couple of years (in part due to singer Chris Barron's problems with his vocal chords), the band re-formed in 2001 and began working on material for a new album, 2005's NICE TALKING TO ME.
Not much new has been added to the Doctors' brand of bluesy, good-time jam rock, but the style is well-honed, and the tunes are hook-filled and confident. Additionally, the album is given a full, sharp sheen by producer Matt Wallace, lending the band more muscle than they've had since the early '90s. Fans of the Spin Doctors can consider this a proper comeback, and even detractors should give NICE TALKING TO ME a fair listen.
