Album Notes Rollins Band: Henry Rollins (vocals); Jim Wilson (guitar); Jason Mackenroth (saxophone, drums); Marcus Blake (bass). Recorded at Cherokee Studios, Los Angeles, California. Henry Rollins's second album with the new-and-improved Rollins Band (it's basically Rollins fronting the Los Angeles hard rock band Mother Superior), 2001's NICE also proves to be the debut release from the quartet's new label, Sanctuary Records. The album's unassuming title might lull many a newcomer into a false sense of security, before pummeling the listener with the Rollins Band trademark of groove-heavy, Sabbath-esque power rock. NICE finds the Rollins Band growing together as a unit (especially when compared to their first release together, 2000's GET SOME GO AGAIN), as they lock into one killer riff-rocker after another. There's the album's undisputed highlight "Your Number Is One," the opening track "One Shot," and the aggressive "Gone Inside the Zero" for starters. With the release of NICE, the latest edition of the Rollins Band appears to be fast developing into one hell of a deadly rocking beast.
Industry Reviews ...Straightforward, ass-kicking garage-metal....Henry's concerns haven't changed...but the fresh sound of the band is update enough. CMJ (08/13/2001)
8 out of 10 - ...A suprisingly solid effort... Alternative Press (10/01/2001)
