Grover Washington, Jr. was probably the most successful smooth jazz artist of his generation. His blend of R&B, soul, pop, and jazz earned him a glowing reputation with consumers and "quiet storm" DJs. Washington's discography boasts three decades of creative and heartfelt albums, and his 1992 release, NEXT EXIT is no exception.
His velvety sax style blends well with vocal performances by Nancy Wilson on "Your Love," Levi Stubbs on "Till You Return to Me," Paula Holloway and Man Slaughter on "Check Out Grover," and others. Propelled largely by drum machines and electronic keyboards, NEXT EXIT has a distinctly '90s flair. Highlights include Washington's passionate soprano sax solo on the salsa-inflected "Only for You (Siempre Para Ti)" and his offbeat synthesized version of Paul Desmond's "Take Five."

Industry Reviews
...all too familiar, all too comfortable to function as anything deeper than bubbly, urbane sonic wallpaper... - Rating: C+
Entertainment Weekly (06/05/1992)

2 Stars - Average - ...Exit perhaps, but no departure....There just isn't anything striking...
