Synopsis
Based on seven years of research, extensive surveys of professionals and working-class Americans, and hundreds of personal interviews, Sheehy proposes these new themes for the adult life cycle: that there are no longer predictable milestones within adulthood, that no one should become dependent on one source of identity, that most people are unprepared for the years she calls "second adulthood," which comes in the years remaining after the age of 50, and that the meaning of life is to "find your passion and pursue it with whole heart and single mind."
