Synopsis The 62 poets represented in this anthology mostly came of age when their various countries had shaken off their colonial oppressors, so they are said to be less concerned with the political influence of Europe than older African poets were. Instead their poems focus on the growth of autonomous governments, hopes for future glory, and critiques of Euro-American cultural influence. Among the many poets is Nelson Mandela's daughter Zindzi, who contributes four poems.
