Movie Description In this rewarding 30-minute film, director Jonathan Demme captures Neil Young and Crazy Horse jamming their way through an all-night session at The Complex recording studios in Los Angeles on October 3, 1994. The vibe is relaxed and the inspiration high, as the Neil and "the Horse" lay down songs from the album SLEEPS WITH ANGELS. First Neil takes to the piano alone for the moving ballad "My Heart." Then the band joins in for the mid-tempo rocker "Prime of Life," followed by the film's highlight, an intense 14-minute guitar-jam epic called "Change Your Mind." "Piece of Crap," a brash, punk rock style rant against consumer culture, completes the film. Through it all, Young and his fellow musicians show amazing musical rapport, and Demme manages to document something more than just the music: in these veteran rocker's aging faces he finds a touching American success story, a rock and roll triumph against the ravages of time itself. This is a session worth experiencing not just by Young's legions of fans, but for all lovers of great rock and concert films, who may be reminded of Demme's earlier work: TALKING HEADS - STOP MAKING SENSE.
Industry Reviews "...Demme has resuscitated the art of performance videos....Perfectly suits Young's informal brand of rock & roll." -- Rating: B+ Entertainment Weekly - J.R. Taylor (03/31/1995)
