Synopsis
During Joe Namath's stellar career as quarterback for the New York Jets in the 1960s and '70s, he was almost as famous for his exploits off the field as on. A legendary drinker and womanizer, Namath, however, was also known to be a true sportsman and a very nice guy. Mark Kriegel's biography takes the reader through Namath's outsized life, from his rough upbringing in a Pennsylvania steel town to his amazing University of Alabama days to his years with the Jets (and his legendary performance in the 1969 Super Bowl against the heavily favored Baltimore Colts) to his retirement form football--still in his 30s--when he became a sports broadcaster, TV pitchman, and celebrity "personality."
