Album Notes Producers: Ant Banks, Krayzie Bone, Craig B., Dr. Dre, Yella. In 1988, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and the rest of the N.W.A. posse made hip-hop history by releasing STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON, defining West Coast gangsta rap in the process. Speaking their minds about their surroundings, the police, and their contemporaries in no uncertain terms, they laid down a style that thousands followed to the top of the charts. Even if Dre, Ice Cube and M.C. Ren never went any further in their careers than this landmark album, they would still be revered as rap icons. Ten years later, a legion of heavyweight admirers return the favor by contributing their own versions of the tunes from STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON, presenting in the original album's running order. Bone Thugs' "Fuck Tha Police" is both accessible and uncompromising. Jayo Felony's take on "8 Ball" adds surprising new dimensions. This tribute works both as a statement of gratitude to N.W.A. and a reiteration of their continuing validity.
