About this Book
Synopsis
Although Bobby's father thinks that he might be expelled just like his older brother, with the encouragement of a new fifth-grade teacher, Bobby tries to channel his penchant for humor into a learning experience., Bobby is a class clown who can't stop acting out in school--he's always cracking up the other students but annoying the teacher. Finally, Bobby's father tells him that if his attitude doesn't improve, he'll send Bobby to a special school for students with "behavioral problems." Now Bobby has just one chance to prove himself worthy of staying in school--he's been assigned to put on a school-wide laugh-off: teachers vs. students. Will Bobby be able to prove to his father that his jokes aren't just for kidding around?

Publisher's Notes
First Line: ""Yuck!" shouted Mr. Matous. The doorknob rattled as he tried to turn it. The class cracked up. They say that laughter is the best medicine. If that's so, then call me the doctor. I was the one who had put Vaseline on the outside doorknob."

Industry Reviews
"Bobby is a sympathetic, strongly articulated character....a character worth rooting for..."
Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books - Janice M. Del Negro (01/19/1998)

"Things may work out a little too well in the end, but scenes of Bobby's home life and his relationship with his friends and relatives make this book hard to put down."
Karlin
