Movie Description In this cinematic retelling of Daniel Defoe's vast 1722 novel, Robin Wright tackles the title role of a woman whose indomitable spirit carries her through a lifetime of adventure. From an extended stint as a prostitute, through jail time and her ultimate redemption, Moll's sense of hope never wavers.
Synopsis This film, loosely based on Daniel Defoe's 1722 novel, chronicles the fascinating life of the independent, intelligent and resilient Moll Flanders.
Set in 18th century England, the film details Moll's eventful, difficult teen years, but the bulk of the story takes place after she reaches adulthood, when she becomes a whore in a bordello run by the wicked Mrs. Allworthy. Moll hopes to marry one of her rich patrons. However, prostitution breaks her spirit, and leads Moll to drink and despair.
But the determined lady finds love and happiness in the arms of an artist, and Moll leaves the bordello to marry him and bear his child. But once again, her strength will be tested, when she becomes the focus of Mrs. Allworthy's revenge...
