Album Notes A rare release under his proper moniker after a string of alter-ego efforts, MF Doom's solo tour de force originally appeared in 2004. Culinary arts, digestive misadventures, and nourishment in general are themes that run throughout the 15-deep tracklist. Count Bass D, Madlib, and PNS provide supplemental beatwork and Mr. Fantastik, Angelika, 4ize, and Count Bass himself lay down guest verses. With production that leans heavily on easy-listening loops, obscure TV and radio program samples, and the underground antihero's trademark wildly inventive lyricism, MM...FOOD is stylistically closer to his 1999 debut OPERATION: DOOMSDAY than other more recent works.
Industry Reviews 3 1/2 discs out of 5 - [T]he sample-driven selections are sure to make comic-crazed turntablists salvate...
Lyrically, MM..FOOD is the best of three albums released by Daniel Dumile this year.
4 stars out of 5 - [An] amazing supervillain team-up with producer/fellow underground icon Madlib.
4 stars out of 5 - Doom proves himself once again to be a multi-tasking superhero: an eloquent, conscious and technically gripping rapper; and a producer who can revitalise the cut'n'paste fundaments of hip hop.
3 stars out of 5 - [T]he apotheosis of Dumile's idiosyncratic lo-fi trash-art: hilarious, stoned hip hop drooling with ideas...
[He] flips countless edible metaphors over hard-hitting, jazzy beats, while never devolving into pointless parody. - Grade: B+
Doom counts among the few working hiphop producers who make worthwhile sound collages, deploying self-mythologising sci-fi snippets but reacting to them on the mic as well...
4 stars out of 5 -- A cut 'n' paste collage of instruments, skits and rhymes, MM..FOOD is alive with lurid comic book nostalgia and startling wordplay.
