Movie Description
A likeable hedonist tries to find his niche in Castro's Cuba after the revolution and discovers with dismay that Communism is too austere and revolt too tiring. A very gentle comic satire based on the novel "Inconsolable Memories," by Edmundo Desnoes.

Credits
Cast:Sergio Corrieri
Director:Tomás Gutiérrez Alea

Synopsis
An insightful portrait of a bourgeois intellectual struggling to define his role as a Cuban citizen in the wake of the revolution. This masterpiece of Third World Cinema, mixes documentary footage, still photography and narrative action to create an introspective film.

Cuba, 1961. When Sergio's family departs for the U.S., he chooses to stay behind. Continually engaged in self-reflection, he grapples with his competing loyalties and changing political sensibilities. Sergio believes in the revolution but relishes the privileged lifestyle of Europe's well-born literati. He feels a tremendous void in his life which he tries to fill by having an affair with a beautiful but poor young woman. Before long, Sergio's gotten himself in trouble with the girl's family. But she's merely symbolic of the mess he's made of his life.
