Album Notes Personnel includes: Sammy Kershaw, Lorrie Morgan (vocals); Steve Dorf (conductor); John D. Willis (acoustic guitar); Brent Mason (electric guitar); Paul Franklin (steel guitar): Keith Stegall (guitar); Stuart Duncan (fiddle); Hargus "Pig" Robbins (piano); John Kelton, Gary Prim (keyboards); Glenn Worf (bass); Eddie Bayers (drums); John Wesley Ryles (background vocals). Principally recorded at The Tracking Room and Javalina Recording Studio, Nashville, Tennessee. All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology. Sammy Kershaw fans who prefer ballads like "Love of My Life" over rowdier numbers like "Cadillac Style" will enjoy MAYBE NOT TONIGHT, an album in which Kershaw's fine, traditional voice is used to full effect on a batch of well-written, affecting songs. While there are a few up-tempo tracks here, like the swampy "Louisiana Hot Sauce" and the hilarious "Ouch," MAYBE NOT TONIGHT mostly finds Kershaw in sensitive guy mode. The subject matter, as one might expect, concerns love and its perils ("When You Love Someone," "How Can I Say No," Leo Sayer's "More Than I Can Say"). The highlight is the title track, a duet with Kershaw's longtime pal Lorrie Morgan. As they trade verses, the two singers paint an evocative picture of a broken marriage that still has a chance of being repaired. Kershaw does some of his best singing ever here, and Morgan is great as usual. Other standouts include "What I Did To Us," the heartbreaking confession of a divorced dad who finally realizes the effect his behavior has had on his family, and "How Much Does the World Weight," a socially conscious ballad about the emotional pain of everyday people struggling to get by.
