Synopsis
Despite the efforts of the parents of Brian Warner, the future Marilyn Manson, to blame his strict religious education for their son's later goth-ghoul-on-acid incarnation, Kurt B. Reighley's entertaining biography reveals perhaps another cause--Manson's father's penchant for dressing up like a member of Kiss when he accompanied his son to that band's concerts (the indignity of being chaperoned to a rock show by one's Dad presumably not being humiliation enough). Reighley also reveals that the singer is perhaps the only musician ever to reveal details of his operation for the removal of rectal polyps to a guitar magazine. These eccentricities aside, MARILYN MANSON recounts the detailed story of the band's touring career (which took them from Detroit dive bars to 10,000-seat arenas within the space of a few years), the predictable outrage they generated among adult inhabitants of Middle America, and the equally unsurprising adulation heaped upon them by those adults' offspring. With additional comprehensive critiques of albums from 1994's PORTRAIT OF AN AMERICAN FAMILY to 1996's ANTICHRIST SUPERSTAR, MARILYN MANSON is a convincing picture of one of the most outrageous bands of the 1990s.

Industry Reviews
"His [Reighley's] prose is economical...and he seems worlds smarter than his subject matter."
