Movie Description This is the fifth of nine films about lovable Ma and Pa Kettle. Ma and Pa Kettle are based on characters taken from Betty Macdonald's best selling book, THE EGG AND I, which tracked the difficulties faced by a city girl who moved to a rural chicken farm with her husband. Played by veteran actors Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride, this hillbilly duo who lived in Cape Flattery, Washington, went on to create a following and became the stars of their own films. Shot in the studio for next to nothing, these two lovable old timers earned Universal Pictures millions. Ma is ornery and Pa is shy and Lorie Nelson ardently plays Rosie the oldest daughter of their wild brood. In this particular adventure the two lovable country folk need money to send Rosie to college. At the County Fair, Ma dutifully enters jam and bread-making contests, and Pa enters a nag in the trotting harness race. Director Charles Barton finesses the tricky plot twists and produces a winner.
