Synopsis

Eric Cash, a bartender whose dreams of becoming a writer have fallen to the wayside, is a witness when a new young bartender is shot and killed in a routine mugging. The murder becomes a media story, and brings into focus the maelstrom of conflicts--race, class, and culture--brewing in New York's Lower East Side, where housing projects and Chinatown come into conflict with the young white urban immigrants transforming the neighborhood in their own image.
