Movie Description
Two classic romances are collected here. The magic of a shipboard romance charms a Frenchman and American woman (Charles Boyer and Irene Dunne) into each other's arms in LOVE AFFAIR, but promises made to other people and the fleeting nature of romance convince the couple to part ways for six months and meet again atop the Empire State Building to see if their love is a lasting one. Although their hearts remain true, an accident and a misunderstanding set the stage for heartbreak. The movie was written, directed, and produced by Leo McCarey, who remade LOVE AFFAIR almost 20 years later as the better-known AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr as the star-crossed couple.
LETTER OF INTRODUCTION (1938) is a lighthearted, knowing comedy about an aspiring actress who attempts to achieve stardom without the help of her estranged father (Adolphe Menjou), an influential but fading Broadway star. An excellent cast and sharp direction by John M. Stahl help make this showbiz picture memorable.
