Industry Reviews Gr 5-8 A concise consideration of a medical condition and its consequences on personal health. Landau defines albinism and discusses the genetic causes as well as the accompanying vision and skin-care problems. Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome, an unusual form of albinism that results in severe medical problems, receives an entire chapter. The final two chapters discuss how to live with albinism and the general effect the condition has on lifestyle and physical well being. This is a positive book, written without sensationalism and illustrated with full-color and black-and-white photographs that support this approach. In view of the current practice of mainstreaming special-needs children into regular classrooms, as well as the wide-spread emphasis on diversity within our culture, it is a valuable addition to most collections.
