Album Notes
The cover--with a dog, no less, at Jerry Jeff's feet--suggests music so laid back that it's practically supine. Don't let that fool you. The contents are actually quite intense. As a matter of fact, it's one of Walker's all-time best live recordings. Of course, with the exception of the concluding "Trashy Women," no one's ever going to mistake it for rock & roll, either.
Acoustic fare dominates, and the songs range from the reflective ("I Feel Like Hank Williams Tonight") to the poignant ("Long Long Time," in a version that finally erases the memory of Linda Ronstadt). The album's centerpiece, however, is "Man With The Big Hat," an extremely well written story song about the decline of the West (as in cowboys, not Western civilization) with guest vocals by the redoubtable Willie Nelson.
