Although Southside Johnny And The Asbury Jukes were a bar band to the bone, they didn't issue a domestically available live album until 1981's LIVE: REACH UP AND TOUCH THE SKY (the often bootlegged LIVE AT THE BOTTOM LINE was a promo release from '76). Bands often issue live albums to buy time between studio releases, but while REACH UP AND TOUCH THE SKY was intended as one of these, (between 1980's LOVE IS A SACRIFICE and 1983's TRASH IT UP), it remains one of the band's best releases. Perfectly capturing the energy and excitement of an Asbury Jukes show, this is a consistently fine listen from beginning to end. Individual standouts include "Hearts of Stone," "The Fever," "Why Is Love Such a Sacrifice," and a killer Sam Cooke medley.
