Album Notes Personnel: Brian Wilson (vocals, keyboards); Probyn Gregory (vocals, guitar, trumpet, French horn, tannerin); Jeffrey Foskett, Mike D'Amico (vocals, guitar, percussion); Nick Walusko (vocals, guitar); Scott Bennett (vocals, keyboards, vibraphone, percussion); Darian Sahanaja (vocals, keyboards, vibraphone); Jim Hines (vocals, drums); Taylor Mills (vocals, percussion); Paul Mertens (flute, piccolo, alto & baritone saxophones); Bob Lizik (bass). Recorded at the Roxy Theatre, Los Angeles, California in April 2000. Originally released on Brimel (1001). Includes liner notes by David Leaf. This document of the Beach Boys' frontman's first solo tour is an instant classic. Backed by a supremely sensitive big band, including criminally underrated power popsters the Wondermints, Brian Wilson offers a cannily chosen tour of his catalogue. Familiar favorites like "Good Vibrations" and "In My Room" are nestled against slightly more obscure (but equally memorable) tunes like "This Whole World" (perhaps the most perfect two-minute pop symphony ever written) and brand new gems like "This Isn't Love." Wilson himself is in excellent voice, sounding like he's having the time of his life, and the whole thing ranges from the inspirational to the gorgeous.
Industry Reviews ...It's fine....there's plenty of satisfying detail in the arrangements and the perfromances are joyful... Mojo (02/01/2002)
4 stars out of 5 - ...One of the greatest albums of Beach Boys music ever... Q (02/01/2002)
3 stars out of 5 - ...There's a refreshing lack of hubris and a real sense of fun here... Rolling Stone (08/30/2001)
