Album Notes Solo performer: Michael Brook (guitar, synthesizer). Recorded live at The Aquarium, London, England, on May 21, 1992. All music written by Michael Brook. Michael Brook's haiku-like guitar playing has won him a legion of admirers, most notably Brian Eno and Jon Hassell, both of whom have invited him to play on a number of their records. LIVE AT THE AQUARIUM showcases Brook's many moods, from the pastoral shadings found on "Shona Bridge," to the lovely ambient refrains of "Ultramarine," to the 21st century folk stylings of "Red Shift." Brook augments a good portion of these tracks with light tabla programmes, especially on "Red Shift," where the metronomic percussion perfectly compliment his nylon-string twang. Brook's opalescent melodies are crisscrossed by tonal shadings, his guitar often processed electronically and given a digital sheen that is often reminiscent of early records by Andy Summers. Intoxicating.
