Recorded at Huh Sound Theatre, Los Angeles, California. In Carlene Carter's on-again, off-again singing career--three albums in the late '70s, three more in the early '90s--she's packed more smarts, passion and humor into a genre often sorely lacking all three than just about anybody else. A supercharged version of its predecessor, 1990's stellar I FELL IN LOVE, 1993's LITTLE LOVE LETTERS largely abandons the acoustic and bluegrass elements of that album in favor of rip-snorting, saucy rock with a twang. Writing or co-writing every track herself, Carter matches dramatic personal revelations with wry, been-there-done-that wit, so that even torchy ballads like "Unbreakable Heart" have a don't-mess-with-me-again vibe. Carter's piercing voice, more controlled and modulated than it was on her '70s records, has matured into one of the most remarkable instruments in modern country music, and her songwriting here is, as always, simply amazing.
Industry Reviews ...a heavenly mix of hillbilly and high tech... Musician (08/01/1993)
4 Stars - Excellent - ...LITTLE LOVE LETTERS presents another ideal opportunity to fly the flag for Carlene Carter... Q (12/01/1993)
...a shrewd mixture of Carter's past and present....Carter's witty yelp-yodel-and-yell of a style has yielded some awfully catchy music... - Rating: B+ Entertainment Weekly (06/25/1993)
