After the Lox changed their moniker to D-Block, Sheek Louch emerged as their first breakout solo representative. And while D-BLOCK preys on lyrical stereotypes and some overly dramatic skits and interludes, the production itself is surprisingly innovative. "It's On" employs an atmospheric synth backbone, while "Give That Up" merges operatic vocal loops with eccentrically garbled funk guitars. Throughout LIFE, Sheek does a lot of boasting, but in actuality, allows for the tracks themselves to remain pretty laid back, reinforcing the MC's confidence in his talents even more convincingly than the layers of ego-boosting shoutouts.
