Album Notes Buffalo Tom: Bill Janovitz (vocals, guitar); Chris Colbourn (vocals, bass); Tom Maginnis (drums). Producers: Paul Kolderie, Sean Slade, Buffalo Tom. Boston alt-rockers Buffalo Tom were initially under the wing of Dinosaur Jr. main man J. Mascis, who produced their first two albums, and the trio's early work bore a distinct echo of the Dinosaur sound (punky energy plus Neil Young dirt-guitar). The band's third album, LET ME COME OVER, marked an important step toward a unique sonic identity. Sean Slade and Paul Kolderie (Hole, Radiohead) replaced Mascis on the producer's bench, and Buffalo Tom took advantage of the opportunity to expand both their reach and their grasp. While there's still no lack of guitar grit or rock-&-roll fervor on the album, there's a greater dynamic range and a more pronounced melodic sensibility than ever before. During that brief window of time in the Nirvana-fueled early '90s when the "alt" in alt-rock still meant something, bands like Buffalo Tom were viable as major players in the music business, and albums like LET ME COME OVER were the reason why.
