Album Notes
Tonic: Emerson Hart (vocals, guitar, slide guitar, percussion); Jeff Russo (guitar, slide guitar, drums, percussion, background vocals); Dan Rothchild (slide guitar, bass, background vocals); Kevin Shepard (drums, background vocals).
Additional personnel: Lenny Castro (percussion).
One listen to Tonic's debut album makes it obvious that the band is influenced and inspired by a mind-boggling array of musical genres, ranging from classic guitar rock to traditional Irish ballads. Accordingly, LEMON PARADE's sound ranges from big, loud, electrified rock to something more melodic and lyrical. The overwhelming sense is of an invigorating, refreshing absence of gimmick or attitude; just straightforward, tightly constructed guitar melodies and singer Emerson Hart's intense and confident vocals.
Hart's songwriting is equally unaffected, exploring a variety of themes which all seem to hinge on personal relationships, including "My Old Man," which examines the complicated nature of a father-son relationship, and the sweet-natured title track, which imagines the girlhood of a lover: "Did the boys all tease you when they had the chance/Always left standing when it came time to dance?".

Industry Reviews
3 (out of 5) - ...the band...excels when they use acoustic Zeppelin as a touchstone....All in all, [Tonic] shows a lot of promise.
RIP (09/01/1996)
