One of the longest running and highly respected acts in regional Mexican music, Los Tigres Del Norte, in the populist narrative tradition of the corrido, offer sharp political and social commentary through romantic, accordion-driven ballads and upbeat waltz-like rhythms. The group's 2009 effort, LA GRANJA, while not venturing far from the time-honored formula of traditional norteno, incorporates a broader palette of international influences from polka to samba. And though the Spanish-language lyrics--dealing with such subjects as drug trafficking, the plight of illegal immigrants, and corruption in the Mexican government--might limit its appeal for some, others will take delight at the group's lively, expressive, and passionate pan-border sound.
