Movie Description This Cole Porter hit based on the Shakespeare play "The Taming of the Shrew" features such hits as "So in Love" and "Always True to You in My Fashion." Academy Award Nominations: Best Scoring of a Musical Picture.
Synopsis The divorced stars of a musical adaptation of Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" find that their offstage romantic lives parallel their combative onstage ones.
Film Notes Shot in Anscocolor; prints by Technicolor.
The play was produced on the stage by Lemuel Ayers and Arnold Saint Subber.
The film was shot in 3-D, but theater owners at the time it was released had the option of choosing either the 3-D version, or the normal 2-D.
The film version of the musical play added one extra song "From This Moment On."
Vocal supervisor was Robert Tucker.
Bob Fosse, who later became an Academy Award-winning, Tony Award-Winning, Emmy Award-Winning director and choreographer, choreographed his own dance in the song "From this Moment On."
Jeanne Coyne, one of the "specialty dancers," became Gene Kelly's wife.
Industry Reviews "...The performances fizz with exuberance and physicality and there are a succession of impressive musical numbers..." Total Film - Tom Dawson (02/01/2001)
"...Renowned as one of the best movies shot in 3-D and the springboard to Bob Fosse's choreography career..." USA Today - Mike Clark (07/29/1994)
