Though Jim Gaffigan had been a fairly successful standup comedian since the 1990s, his 2006 album and Comedy Central special, BEYOND THE PALE, was his mainstream breakthrough, taking the food-obsessed and remarkably pigmentation-free comic to a higher level of visibility. KING BABY is Gaffigan's first release since that milsestone, and it wisely builds on the affably sardonic persona perfected there, though here Gaffigan expands his topics from fast food to ironic celebrations of other aspects of American consumer culture.
