Armand Van Helden's sample- and breakbeat-fueled house never shies away from pugnacious bandying about of its influences; any eagle-eared listener versed in classic disco, old school hip-hop, and even `80s new wave pop would be familiar with the source material scavenged for the producer's 2000 album, KILLING PURITANS. Mining hooks from songs as varied as Sylvia Striplin's club classic "Give Me Your Loving" ("Full Moon"), to the punishing metallic riffs of the Scorpions' anthem "Bad Boys Running Wild" ("Little Black Spiders"), to Gary Numan's noir-influenced new wave hit "Cars" ("Koochy"), Van Helden embraces a more carefree era in clubland, where DJs were free to mix styles and sensibilities as long as they kept groove pumping.
