In some ways the love child of Sade and Norah Jones, European sensation Ayo blends African pop and western soul influences into seductively mellow mood music. The daughter of a Nigerian father and a Romanian Gypsy mother born and raised in Germany, Ayo (whose name does mean "Joyful" in Yoruba) has a smoky voice and soulful delivery perfectly matched by the low simmer of jazzy arrangements built on African percussion, acoustic guitar, and old-fashioned funky organ grooves.
