Album Notes Jane's Addiction: Perry Farrell (vocals); Dave Navarro (guitar); Eric A. (bass); Stephen Perkins (drums). Principally recorded live at The Roxy, Hollywood, California. For its 1987 self-titled debut, Jane's Addiction decided to include both live and studio renditions of originals and covers. A couple of songs ("Pigs in Zen," "Jane Says") would be re-recorded for band's classic 1988 major label debut, NOTHING'S SHOCKING, but the rest of the selections can only be found here. Originals like "Trip Away," "Whores," "1%," and "I Would for You" have become classics among J.A.'s ardent following, while the album-closing "Chip Away" is a memorable percussion-driven experiment in sound. The band also takes the Velvet Underground's "Rock n' Roll" and the Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil" (titled here simply as "Sympathy") and reworks them to the point where they sound very little like the originals. While the band's two major-label releases are definitive, hardcore fans will definitely enjoy JANE'S ADDICTION.
