Movie Description A romantic farce that mocks Spanish social conventions and class relations. Conchita, the status-conscious wife of a wealthy factory owner, is none too happy to hear that her ne'er-do-well son is bedding the luscious Silvia, daughter of the town prostitute--especially as the girl's mother once had an affair with Conchita's husband. So Conchita concocts a scheme to end the relationship: she hires Raúl, the town hunk, to seduce Silvia. But even the best-laid plans can go awry, and a comic roundelay begins when Raúl actually falls for Silvia and Conchita falls for Raúl. It's not long before Raúl is bedding both women... and a confrontation is on its way. Winner of the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival.

Film Notes This is director Bigas Luna's 8th, and most successful, film; it won a Silver Lion at the 1992 Venice Festival. Apparently, Luna is hoping to turn this tale into an opera, with music written by the film's score composer, Nicola Piovani.
The film was shot in Aragon, Spain.
Rated BBFC 18 by the British Board of Film Classification.
Shot in Panavision.

Industry Reviews "This sexy, good-natured Spanish farce has plenty to recommend it, including a nude bullfight..." Entertainment Weekly - p.60 - Lawrence O'Toole
"...A movie that combines lurid melodrama with vast improbabilities, sexy soap opera with heartfelt romance, and cheerful satire with heedless raunch..." Chicago Sun-Times - Roger Ebert (02/11/1994)
