Synopsis Kundera's play--which he calls a "variation" on Diderot's novel JACQUES LE FATALISTE (1796)--is about a lusty young serving man who travels across France with his master. The two indulge in various sexual adventures, but mostly they tell scandalous stories and engage in witty conversations about love, sex, poetry, and fate. JACQUES AND HIS MASTER was directed in its first American performance by Susan Sontag.
