Synopsis In this prose reimagining of America's most beloved superhero, Tom De Haven eschews the current trend in comic books, TV shows, and movies that update Superman for our time, preferring instead to bring the Man of Steel back to his original time period and present him as an alien child brought up as a farm boy in Depression-era Kansas. Shy, socially awkward, smalltown reporter Clark Kent knows that he just doesn't fit in, thanks to the literally unearthly abilities he keeps developing. Meanwhile in New York, brilliant aspiring journalist Lois Lane's boyfriend, photographer Willi Berg, is found in the wrong place at the wrong time by Lex Luthor, New York Alderman and crime kingpin. Willi's fugitive journey from the law and from Lex brings him to Smallville, Kansas, where a fateful encounter with Clark sets the latter on the path of his famous destiny as a superpowered crimefighter.
Industry Reviews "De Haven gives readers X-ray vision for determining when his tongue is in his cheek here; using it is great fun." Publishers Weekly (09/26/2005)
"[A] rib-tickling melodrama....[T]he narrative excess is irresistible....Comic noir with a super-keen edge, in De Haven's best book yet." (starred review) Kirkus (10/01/2005)
"[T]he cartoon world of IT'S SUPERMAN! is often as delightful as the original created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster....[T]he smart money says De Haven's cartoon world will entertain readers for a long time to come." New York Times Book Review - Josh Emmons (12/04/2005)
