Movie Description When a kindergarten teacher (Philippe Torreton) living in a rural town in France finds that the coal mines--the main source of income--have been closed down, his community changes, becoming increasingly poverty-stricken and decrepit. One day when a drunk mother collapses in the school yard, then abandons her children, Daniel decides to take the kids into his own home. That is the beginning of a critical, reactionary stand he decides to take against the deterioration of his village. A tough and endearing tale, director Bertrand Tavernier (ROUND MIDNIGHT) has made a fine picture with this one.
Industry Reviews "...Passionate and relentless....[The film] strikes a difficult and necessary balance..." Scott
"...Superb....IT ALL STARTS TODAY glows, as do all Tavernier films. It's another gem in an ever-lengthening string of accomplishments from one of the world's major filmmakers..." Los Angeles Times - Kevin Thomas (09/29/2000)
"...A tender and passionate protest, not without laughter..." Chicago Sun-Times - Roger Ebert (01/19/2001)
4 stars out of 5 -- "[I]t plays beautifully, like Gallic Loach, and the deft camerawork allows for some amazing, if at times heartbreaking, scenes with the kids." Empire - Empire Staff (05/01/2008)
