Synopsis Set in the recent past (1985), INTUITION tackles the still-current topics of the fierce competitiveness and potential for fraud within the scientific community. The Philpott Institute, a prestigious but cash-strapped cancer research center, is scrambling for funding. Its best hope for new grants lies with postdoc Cliff Garland, whose pursuit of a previously fruitless line of research produces a virus that shrinks tumors in hairless mice. Co-director Sandy Glass rushes Cliff’s results into print, whereupon Cliff’s colleague and former girlfriend Robin Decker accuses him of faking his data. The subsequent controversy threatens to tear the lab apart.

Industry Reviews "Top-notch in every respect. A superlative novel." (starred review) (12/01/2005)
"[Q]uiet but powerful....With subtle but uncanny effectiveness, Goodman illuminates the inner lives of each character....[A] truly humanist novel from the supposedly antiseptic halls of science." (starred review) (12/05/2006)
"Goodman displays remarkable knowledge of the inner workings of the modern biomedical enterprise....This authenticity is the greatest strength of INTUITION. Rarely has a novel so deeply probed the thoughts and actions of physicians and scientists as they strive to succeed." (03/01/2006)
