Synopsis
This follow-up to the ONE LAMP anthology is a set of sword and sorcery stories first published in the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, selected by the current publisher of that magazine. The wide-ranging collection includes canonical works, e.g. Fritz Leiber's "Ill Met in Lankhmar," chronicling the first meeting of his two most famous characters, the swordsman/thief duo Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser; as well as stories from such contemporary figures as Jeffrey Ford ("The Fantasy Writer's Assistant") and Charles Coleman Finley ("After the Gaud Chrysalis"). Ursula Le Guin contributes an Earthsea story ("Darkrose and Diamond") and Ellen Kushner provides a story featuring the protagonists from her novel SWORDSPOINT ("The Swordsman Whose Name Was Not Death").

Industry Reviews
"...[A]n excellent collection of stories....What...[Van Gelder] seems to have done is demonstrate that Sword & Sorcery is not a moribund subgenre. Intriguing new stories are thick on the ground."
Locus - Rich Horton (09/01/2004)
