On IDIOLOGY, the German electronic duo who brought new meaning to the term "electronic pop" subtly expand the Mouse on Mars sound without abandoning their previously established style. The skittering beats, rubbery electro-basslines and loopy sense of humor that were hallmarks of past MOM releases still play a major role here. The sonic palette is, however, broadened on several levels, from shifting, atmospheric string textures to free-jazz sax tones, greater use of vocals, and the presence of a straight-up ska tune, IDIOLOGY finds Mouse on Mars venturing into areas only hinted at on earlier recordings. The result is a disc that admirably combines quirky, beat-conscious groove thangs with the tasty tones of a unique brand of neo-mood music for our twisted times.
