While Steven Wright became an icon of 1980s comedy for his ultra-dryly-delivered, absurd one-liners, for almost three decades of standup, 1985's I HAVE A PONY was the only full-length recording of his unique comic stylings. However, I HAVE A PONY is a jam-packed sample of one of irony's greatest advocates since Steve Martin's heyday. From wry observations like "I'm not afraid of heights, I'm afraid of widths" to bizarre linguistical twists like "do you live around here often," Wright's routines rarely build past one layer, but the scattershot effect he unleashes is like few others in the comedy game.
