Synopsis In this Harlem-based novel, three ex-cons--including Cedric Snowden, who sort of murdered his father but not quite--team up with an outfit that wants to transform Harlem into a crime-free middle-class paradise. Gradually, Cedric begins to realize that the lowlife inhabitants of the apartments that are being rehabbed died in mysterious accidents, and when a feisty reporter gets wind of the story the course of Harlem history gets amusingly changed....

Industry Reviews "Johnson makes a welcome raconteur for a late night: he's sharply observant and funny, even witty at times. He can also be long-winded, and some of his sentences do bump along. Still, few will complain as long as the good lines keep coming." Kirkus Reviews (02/15/2003)
