Album Notes Personnel: Scott Walker; Scott Engel. Liner Note Author: Bill Dahl. Before he racked up pop hits with the Walker Brothers and garnered a cult following with his adventurous solo work, Scott Walker had a brief run as a teen singer under his given name, Scott Engel. HUMBLE BEGINNINGS documents this little-known early era of Walker's career, offering up sugarcoated late-1950s/early-'60s singles such as "All I Do Is Dream of You" and "Sing Boy Sing," which hint at the Ohio-born performer's flair for the dramatic and his soon-to-deepen voice, but give no inkling of the avant-garde muse he would eventually follow (particularly on his 2006 studio album, THE DRIFT, released the same month as this compilation). While this set of juvenilia is geared towards Walker diehards, these charmingly lightweight tunes may also appeal to aficionados of breezy pre-Beatles-era pop.
