Synopsis Adult movie star Jenna Jameson's nearly 600-page autobiography (in publishing, as in porn, size obviously matters) begins at puberty with, appropriately enough, the onset of her breasts and pubic hair. She immediately starts dressing "like a hoochie mama," and turning heads all over Las Vegas. With a family relationship that can safely be described as dysfunctional, she begins a rocky adolescence punctuated by violence and drug abuse that culminates in her rape by the uncle of a boyfriend: after this, her subsequent porn career almost seems like a godsend. Jameson's Moll Flanders-like story is told in a clear-eyed, earnest manner: she neither apologizes for her choice of profession nor seeks to endow it with clichéd motivations. She enumerates the pitfalls of her business (the most obvious being, unsurprisingly, the advantage taken of women by unscrupulous directors), but cites her own example as a woman who has successfully taken charge of her own career. Written with former New York Times writer Neil Strauss, and, perhaps most importantly, lavishly illustrated, HOW TO MAKE LOVE LIKE A PORN STAR (instructions included--the catch being they're arguably only really useful for aspiring professionals) is an endearingly honest look at a multi-million dollar industry by one of its most successful artists.
